With Music

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

With Music is a student-led non-profit organization based in LA/OC that uses music to bring people together and create positive change. As the president, I helped organize fundraising concerts and community events to support those in need. Through these experiences, I witnessed how music can connect hearts and inspire hope beyond words.

Japan GCA English & Music Education Project

  • To support students at Global Christian Academy (GCA) in Tokyo, a small boarding school for students recovering from bullying and social difficulties. During my 3-day stay, I shared everyday English and cultural experiences to help them regain confidence and build friendships.

  • This experience taught me how empathy and small acts of care can rebuild trust, reminding me that genuine connection begins with understanding.

MAIN PROJECTS

2023-2024

LA Pasadena WildFire Fundraising Project

  • To support victims of the LA wildfires by raising funds through music performances and selling handmade T-shirts and mini tote bags. Our goal was to bring hope and relief to those who lost their homes, including the homeroom teacher of one of our members, whose house was completely destroyed by the fire.

  • This experience reminded me how collective effort, creativity, and compassion can bring comfort to those facing loss. Witnessing our small actions rebuild a teacher’s home showed me the true power of community and kindness.

2024-2025

South Korea DMZ Dochang Elementary School English Teaching Project

  • To support Dochang Elementary School, located near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), after learning through an LA Times article that the school was at risk of closing. The students, all children of military parents, had limited exposure to the outside world due to security restrictions. Our team created a three-day English curriculum and visited the school to provide immersive language and cultural experiences. Before our visit, we conducted eight months of online lessons and introductions to prepare the students for in-person activities. During our stay, we taught English through songs, conversations, and an original English musical performed together with the children.

  • This experience showed me how education can go beyond textbooks to inspire hope and curiosity. Seeing the students’ confidence grow, and hearing that new children enrolled after our visit, reminded me that small efforts can create lasting change. It was a moment where language, art, and empathy came together to open a new window to the world for those who had rarely looked beyond the fences.
